Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to the questions clients ask us most. Still unsure? Speak to a barrister directly.

Can I instruct a barrister directly without a solicitor?
Yes. MH Barristers are Public Access barristers, so members of the public and businesses can instruct us directly for advice, drafting, applications and representation without first going to a solicitor. This can save time and cost. For some complex or evidence-heavy matters a solicitor may still be recommended, and we will tell you honestly if that is the case.
What areas of law does MH Barristers cover?
We specialise in UK immigration and asylum law, including visa applications, British citizenship, appeals, administrative reviews and judicial review. We also handle family law, civil litigation, criminal defence, human rights applications, extradition and Commissioner for Oaths services.
How much does it cost to instruct a barrister?
Fees depend on the type and complexity of your matter. For many cases we can offer a fixed fee agreed in advance, so you know the cost before you commit. Contact us for a quote after a short assessment of your situation.
Where are you based?
Our chambers are on the second floor of 113 New Road, Whitechapel, London E1 1HJ, a short walk from Whitechapel and Aldgate East stations. We advise clients across London and the whole of the UK, and can arrange remote consultations by phone or video.
Do you handle immigration appeals and judicial review?
Yes. We regularly represent clients in appeals before the First-tier and Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) and advise on judicial review of Home Office decisions. Time limits are strict, so contact us as soon as you receive a refusal.
How quickly can I speak to a barrister?
For urgent matters such as detention, an imminent appeal deadline or a removal, call us on +44 20 7539 3401 and we will aim to arrange a same-day or next-day consultation where possible.
Do you speak Bengali or other languages?
Yes. Our chambers serve East London's diverse community and can assist clients in Bengali and other languages, so you can explain your case clearly and understand every step.
What should I prepare before my consultation?
Bring your passport and any immigration documents, any Home Office letters or decisions, relevant deadlines, and a short summary of your situation and what you want to achieve. The more complete your documents, the more precise our advice can be.

Facing a Deadline or a Difficult Decision?
